U.S. Veteran

A native and resident of Plaquemine, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Baton Rouge General - Bluebonnet. He was 87, a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII and Korea. He was an independent distributor of The Advocate newspaper for 57 years. Visiting Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Wilbert Funeral Home 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church - Plaquemine from 8am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am celebrated by Rev. Cleo J. Milano. Entombment in Grace Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lois B. Romero; one daughter, Cindy R. Michel & husband Lonnie; one son, Brian P. Romero, Sr. & wife Jan F.; 3 sisters, Shirley Haydel, Dorothy Hebert & Pricilla Newman; 5 grandchildren, Travis & Trent Michel; Brian Jr., Brennan & Baco Romero; 9 great grandchildren, Braxton, Greyson, Reese, Claire & Jack Michel; Brian III, Gavin, Weston & Cruz Romero; former daughter-in-law, Sandra F. Romero. Preceded in death by his parents, Edna & Martin Romero; and brother, Martin Romero, Jr. Pallbearers will be his 5 grandsons and nephew Leonard Delapasse. He was a member of the American Legion Post #167 since 1945. He was President of the St. John Fathers Club 1972-1975 during which he ushered in the baseball program at St. John School and modernized St. John's Football Facilities in the 70s. He served under 9 different priests starting with Father Robin through Father Cleo Milano. He served as head usher for many years at St. John. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. John the Evangelist Capital Campaign Fund. Arrangements with Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine.
